Beautiful Wedding Dresses at Bargain Prices
Wedding dresses are things of beauty,
and the quality of the gowns can definitely make or break a
marriage ceremony, so it's worthwhile to find the perfect dress
for you-before you say "I do."
No two ways about it; planning a wedding ceremony is a big
deal! For some brides, the most expensive part of their wedding
is the wedding gown. This isn't a big problem if the bride's
family has a tradition of passing down a wedding dress from one
family member to another. But for brides-to-be who don't have
this option, there are alternatives to look beautiful on your
wedding day-without going deep into debt.
If you absolutely "must have" a new wedding dress, your
first stop should be your local bridal shops. Bridal shops
sometimes advertise seasonal or annual wedding dress sales, and
if you're timing is right, you could save big on a perfect new
wedding gown. For example, one chain, David's Bridal,
advertises an annual $99 sale on new wedding gowns. Local
bridal shops may also run the occasional sale, so it is
worthwhile to check them as well. Of course, this requires some
legwork, but at least all that running around will help you get
in shape to fit perfectly in your wedding dress when you find
it!
Another option is to approach a family member or friend who
might have sewing skills. You can find wedding dress patterns
at nearly any sewing center, which can then be customized to
fit you perfectly. This is certainly a more personal approach
than simply buying an off-the-rack wedding dress from some
faceless manufacturer. Also, this brings down the cost of your
gown significantly. You total outlay will be only what you
spend on the pattern, fabric, and trim, which will normally be
only a fraction of the price of a new dress.
If you can be comfortable wearing a used wedding gown, your
options become plentiful. "Vintage" wedding gowns are all the
rage today anyway, so why not go for a dress that is unique and
has some history? The classified section of your local Sunday
paper is a great place to start looking for a used or "vintage"
wedding dress.
Even so-called thrift shops like Goodwill or the Salvation
Army sometimes have beautiful vintage wedding gowns for sale.
If you do find a gown at one of these locations, make sure you
have enough time to get the gown professionally cleaned before
your big day. The same applies if you find a gown at a yard or
garage sale.
Still another option is to talk to your local dry-cleaners.
Often, dry cleaners will have unclaimed wedding gowns they are
willing to sell very reasonably. Unfortunately, people
sometimes drop off gowns for cleaning, and forget to ever claim
them. Or occasionally, they are taken aback by the amount being
charged and will elect to simply "forget about it."
After a certain length of time, garments left at the dry
cleaners will be considered abandoned and the cleaners can sell
the garment if they choose to do so. In these situations,
someone else's loss could just be your gain. Beautiful wedding
dresses have been purchased for less than $30 from dry cleaning
stores in this manner.
With a little legwork, beautiful wedding
dresses can be found at bargain prices, so you
can look radiant on your special day, without starting off
married life deep in debt.
