Choosing Unique Wedding Invitations

Elegant wedding invitations will set the right tone for your upcoming ceremony, and encourage your guests to look forward to the event. Depending on how elaborate your ceremony will be, you can choose to have simple, but tasteful, invitations, or more formal or exotically themed invitations. The important point is that the invitation style you choose should match the motif of your wedding, so it is advisable to consider the overall style of your ceremony and reception before deciding on an invitation design.

Themed weddings have grown in popularity recently. Non-traditional ceremonies and locations have become en vogue, and the invitations for these events need to echo the overall theme and style of the wedding. Ideally, you will want your wedding invitations to be as creative and unique as your wedding.

Beach weddings, for example, require less formal invitations, appropriately themed to the location. Starfish or palm tree designs are popular for these types of invitations, but you can get even more creative if you choose. One beach wedding recently mailed invitations containing beautiful white beach-sand inside the envelope, for example.

For themed weddings of this type, your imagination is the only limit. But for more traditional weddings, you will want to use classic, elegant invites. A great invitation idea is to use an elegant jeweled envelope with a classic parchment invitation. You can also incorporate your wedding colors into the invite; a simple flower pattern, for example, featuring one or more of your chosen wedding colors.

Deciding on invitations can almost be overwhelming. There are thousands of unique invitations to choose from, with designs ranging from classic, minimal, fun, modern or even abstract. In making your decision, consider your guest list carefully. If you opt for a more modern design, some older members of your party may not appreciate your choice. Try to consider all of your guests in the decision.

Ideally, you want a wedding invitation that is elegant and alluring; one that practically “pulls” your guests into the spirit of the occasion. Using inviting colors and unique textures can produce very special invitations. Likewise, small but important details like off-white colors, and thick parchment can create an invitation that is unforgettable.

One of the biggest considerations for your invitations will be the type and quality of paper you choose. Thick, elegantly-textured parchment can be quite expensive, so you may want to strike an appropriate balance between cost and quality. But it’s important to remember that cutting corners with your choice of paper can ruin the appearance of an otherwise beautiful invitation, producing a “store bought’ or ordinary appearance.

One good paper choice is a metallic-lined parchment, in silver or gold. Also, using layers will add to the elegance of the invitation. The ink colors and text font used will also figure greatly in the overall design. Consulting an engraver is wise to help you achieve the best possible combination of all these design elements within your budget.

Whether you opt for a formal, themed or modern design, with proper preparation you can create unique and memorable wedding invitations that your guests will want to keep (and perhaps even frame) long after the ceremony is over.
